713 W. Wrightwood

Unfortunately, many 19th century Victorian buildings in Lincoln Park have demolished in recent years to make way for new residential structures, which have worked against the historic character of the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

In order to save 713 W. Wrightwood from the wrecking ball, an extensive restoration was undertaken. Interior mechanical systems were all replaced, while the original woodwork and doors were restored or re-milled. The exterior restoration entailed cleaning of brickwork and researching an authentic Victorian color scheme for the exterior decorative metalwork.

The common brick on the building required chemical cleaning and tuck pointing to remove layers of soot. Tuck pointing was based on the original mortar color. The missing windows were replaced with wood sashes in conformity to historic guidelines. Interior woodwork was restored, hardware was re-polished and period tile was reinstalled in the bathrooms.
