2329 N. Halsted
2329 N. Halsted is located in the heart of Chicago's Lincoln Park/DePaul area. Unfortunately, outside of the date of construction on January 30, 1892, no other notices or information were found.
Without much evidence to go on, restoration relied on architectural clues and anecdotal evidence. Neighborhood lore suggested that the townhouse was built as a means of generating rental income from visitors to the world's Columbian Exposition. That would suggest residential use. In addition, an original china-hutch was located on the first floor and a full bath was located on the second floor.
It became clear that the townhouse had been residential initially and was later converted to a commercial use. Further support of this theory is seen in the residential tone of the buildings front entry and in the decorative nature of the metal bays.
In an effort to restore the building to it original use and keep as much as possible to the suggested original layout, a kitchen and living area was placed on the first floor and bedrooms, were placed on the second and third floors.
